Participants of the Second Pledge of Al-Aqabah
In June 622 C.E., 13th year of his Prophetic mission, just after performing Hajj rituals, 75 Muslim pilgrims from Yathrib, including 2 women, secretly took an oath of allegiance at the hands of Prophet Muhammad at Al-Aqabah, in Mina, on the Night of Al-Nafar Al-Awwal (لیلۃالنفر الاوّل) i.e., 12th of Dhu Al-Hijjah. These were the people who took oath to stand by
Prophet
Muhammad
in any good or bad time. They pledged to sacrifice their lives for Prophet Muhammad
and protect him at all costs, like they did for their families.
These were the devoted companions of Prophet Muhammad
who fought against the Quraysh along with their emigrant Muslim brothers, in the early battles of
Islam
, including the Battle of Badr and Uhud. Some of them got the noble status of martyrdom by sacrificing their lives for Islam. Thus, they were the early soldiers and martyrs of Islam.
